Default Can roots develop at the base of a phalenopsis flower spike?

I used keiki paste on my phaleanopsis and a flower spike developed. That spike is blooming and now I see what looks like roots development at the base of the spike. Here is a picture. Is that even possible?

They look like they may be more branches to the spike. They don’t look like roots to me.

I agree, those aren't roots, you will probably get more flowers soon! Or keikies!

Thanks for the information. Never used keiki paste before. I have one true keiki with leaves, most of the rest are flower spikes obvious but those few weird ones have me confused. I also have one phaleanopsis that had a terminal spike when I got it and has only produced a flower spike. It's dying and have no keiki to reproduce it. That plant is the whole reason I tried the paste in the first place. Sooooo sad.

I’m assuming you’ve checked the roots and repotted etc. the plant with the terminal spike? Phalaenopsis with terminal spikes tend to be pretty aggressive about sending out keikis from the base or sides of the mother plant. They can be easy to miss when they first get started.

Unhappy

No keikis developing. Here's a photo closeup of plant in question and a picture of it's shelf mates so you can see the kind of care she receives.

Mongerj - photo #3 shows a phal that has quite shrivelled leaves - quite dehydrated.

Your photo from the opening post shows growths that appear to be the start of new leaves - aka keiki. Otherwise, if not a keiki - possibly spikes - even though there are THREE of these.

I have one that developed a keiki on a spike and has a couple of good size roots. What's interesting to me is that it also has rooks on th spike above the keiki!
