Can phaleanopsis flower spikes develop roots?

I used keiki paste on some phaleanopsis nodes and they are about to bloom. Now I see what looks like roots development at the base of the spikes . Is that possible? Here's some photos.

Without pictures I can't say what your orchid is doing, but there is no theoretical reason why any node on a Phal can't get roots, especially if hormonal manipulation (keiki paste) comes into play.
