Bletilla growing in autumn? Advice needed Male
Default Bletilla growing in autumn? Advice needed

That's it...my Bletillas started growing 6 months before the expected time. I have stopped watering when temps started to cool down and the leaves were dying.
Last week we had a warmer weather with lots of rain so I think this was the cause, as this kind of weather is a typical spring weather around here.

So, I really don't know what to do now...if I water them, as temps are going down fast (especially at night, 6 to 8 ºC / low 40's F) I believe they will rot.
What would you do?

Maybe water lightly... I don't dry mine out at all, they get watered with everything else around them (some are in the ground, those do the best) but I don't get heavy frost. I am guessing that even if you get near freezing, if the temperature doesn't stay that low for too many hours, you will still be fine. When it turns cold again they'll probably slow down.

Thanks for the imput, Roberta. The lower temps are. roughly, 5 to 6 hrs during the night. So far, during the day, it has been around 18 ºC (65 F).

Yours are getting some sun? I'm considering to put them in a south balcony to get some sun for a few hrs.

The one in the ground that is growing the best gets a few hours of afternoon sun, not a lot. The others are pretty shady. Maybe my others (in pots) need more sun! Good point. That one in the ground is amazing...when I planted it, I filled the hole with some good potting soil, since my soil is horrible heavy clay (just digging a small hole is a challenge) but the plant has spread far beyond the original hole, into that clay, tho only thing that stops it is the cement walkway.

I think I'll do it...a few hrs of winter sun may compensate the cooler nights.
In spring I'll move it again to its original location, a north balcony.

I'll update, as usual.
