Default Fixing broken young phalaenopsis spike

Hi, I broke the spike while adjusting. It cracked till the middle. I secured it back with napkin to the stake. Watering with bioglobin solution daily. Any advise? Thanks.

No advise, at least from me. I think there's nothing one can do. There's a chance for it to bloom.

I've used scotch tape and also super glue. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Good luck!

I have the same experience as waterwitchin; sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It all depends on how severe the break was, the sort break, how well you splint it, and probably some dumb luck as well. Keep us posted!!

I broke one almost 3/4 diameter, secured with cut out from bandaid. It continued to grow and bloomed as nothing happend.

do not move it again

i have had very poor luck at saving broken spikes but i see a bract below the break...if you ware inclined, you can apply a dab of cloning paste to the exposed bract and a new spike should emerge as opposed to a keiki given the plants current hormone phase of being in bloom.

good luck with the splint- it looks very clean and solid so i hope it hold if you pursue it...

also, i cant get perspective but if these flowers are going to be large you might want to add a splint of popsicle stick to support the break

Bioglobin??? Why?

That's an animal vitamin supplement containing copper and selenium.

nice, will try tonight. I have in with napkin for week now and it looks fine.
Just wondering there are some especial tapes for trees, when they used to attached different type of fruit branches. Need to look online for that process.

I m sure there is, but it will be in a huge amount comparing to what is needed to fix a broken spike. Anyway, when something like this happens it is an emergency, no time to order anything, so I had to improvise, turned out to be a successful rescue.

bukalala- if it has been a week it is probably fine. In my experience even if you do break it completely at the stage you did before any real buds formed (or even when they have), the orchid almost immediately compensates and sends out its flush of flowers from next highest node, no paste or products necessary. Happy growing.
