Default Lazy encyclias

Sorry about your cold !! I had a full knee replacement in the spring and still having trouble maintaining my orchids. They will def.get as much light as I can provide this winter and sun in the summer. And yes I do think they are more of a summer bloomer but I can get vandas to bloom and cats ......
BTW I used to live in Olathe Kansas and I loved it ...maybe I should send encyclias to you !lol

Since I have had the same problem with at least one of these plants, I did a little research on the temperature thing. It did not appear to me that they needed anything outside of the normal day to evening temperature range. my plants have enough light that it has actually burned them, and they still don't bloom.

LOL... since you loved Olathe, you think your encyclias would like it here? Hmmmm...

My daughter lives in North Hyde Park in Kansas City, MO. She and her family love it there. It's too many people and traffic for me. But sure is close to anything and everything. Being an hour away from "big city life" suits me well. And I don't think our horses, alpacas, goats, chickens, etc, would be very welcome in Olathe.

Hmmm. Interesting Dolly. I'm just now growing my first Encyclia courtesy of you-know-who. Before I got it, I did some research, and have in my notes x2 of using the temp drop, especially if light was high enough (2000fc) and it didn't get overboard heat for a prolonged time period in summer. Where in the heck I got that, who knows? I can barely remember my name some days.

I believe I know the encyclia that you have. And it requires a winter rest, a dry period, but not necessarily cold. it has bloomed for me reliably every year, except for the year I chopped it up and sent out pieces. As you are well aware there are different types of encyclias as there are different types of dendrobiums. I have never read that the type the OP and I have need a rest.
