I don't think they like water to get between the leaves and pbulbs... I would leave them alone too.

Oncidium will get black spots on leaves if sprayed. Leave them alone. They don't mind lowish humidity.

Thanks Frank and Ross,

The oncidium I have is new for me and my first. It came with spots that I thought were light burn, but they may be spotting due to the spraying, or being watered carelessly in the garden centre.

Just one last question on misting before we finish with this post. I have an Angraecum leonis that I water daily as it's in a wooden hanging box. The leaves started to look shriveled. I was told by an orchid grower to mist it everyday besides watering. It seems to work and looks very healthy now. Same with a couple orchids, a brassia and mtssa that had some new growth that looked like an accordion they were so pleated. Again, I was told to mist, and sure enough, the next new growths seem to be growing fine. I don't let those plants dry out either. Water thoroughly, then let them dry almost completely, then soak, etc.
So many of you say misting is useless and possibly harmful, but without it, mine look unhealthy. I realize there are some that hate it, yes, but many seem to thrive. Can someone enlightened me on this? Thanks!

If it's not hurting them in any way, and you have the free time, I think misting is fine. I mist most of mine, aside from a few that don't like it - I like the personal bonding time... plus the extra C02 from my breath doesn't hurt any!

Yes I can. The Angraecoids appreciate (and really need) very high humidity. If you could mist it several times a day, it would appreciate it. Especially on the roots. Then let dry overnight. I bit the bullit and grow mine in an orchidarium under really high humidity as oppsed to misting, but in answer to your question: it's not a waste of time with this group.

I heavily mist the roots of all my mounts and vandas at least once a day. I also mist into the pots of all the others but not every day for those. I don't let any water get into the crowns of any plants and if it does happen, I blot it out with a paper towel, the vandas and mounts just get tipped over to get the water out.

we Floridians "enjoy" 64 % perent humidity....WITH the A/C running. I only spritz the vanda's roots, unless I dip her....just enogh to turn green, and they always dry out. Ross - you know bunches - is that a good call?
