Need urgent Help with my Orchid.
Default Need urgent Help with my Orchid.

Good day to all.

This is my first post ever so I hope I am doing this right. I bought an orchid last year and it was blooming. So like it should be the flowers died and fell of and only the stems remained.

So two months ago it started to make new flower buds and I was very happy. The first flower open yesterday but now the stem is going brown on the top.

What do I do? I have attached two pictures. One showing the stem going brown and one with the flower on the stem.

Hope to hear from everyone soon with some help.

Thank you

Rassie.

Your flower is a hybrid phaleanopsis. I'm a bit confused about the browning of the stem. Is this a new stem that developed this season or the tip of the stem that was on it when you purchased the plant? This would appear to be the normal senescence of a previously bloomed spike. Are the flowers growing on a lateral spike (i.e., a new spike branching from the old spike from below where the previous flowers had been)? If so, it is all very normal for this type of orchid. A photo showing the whole stem would be more helpful.

The plant has decided it is done with the old spike, so is resorbing the stored nutrients and fuel. When it's all brown, or sooner if you don't like the look, cut it off as close to the base of the plant as possible.

If it remains green after the flowers fade (which I doubt) don't cut it. Some Phals bloom more than once from the same spike.

And welcome to the board.

It is unclear from your picture where is the flower, if it is on the same spike, then I would cut above new flowers, If it is on a different spike, leave it alone and cut later as Ray have suggested.
