I have a Phal. Liu's berry -- mentioned by BrassavolaStars above -- and mine is decidedly not fragrant, not that I've ever detected. I guess there could be differences in cultivars or indeed in growing conditions, though.

Can't tell the players without a scorecard... especially when they get rearranged. (Sedirea japonica still looks more like a Vanda to me than a Phal) I still can't bring myself to call Neofinetia falcata a Vanda.

As for cultivars, especially of hybrids, there can be variation, especially in subtleties like fragrance. And some of the more recent Zygo hybrids have hardly any fragrance. Oldies like Z. B.G. White or Z. Artur Elle are so strong that they're almost too much. Sort of like roses... hybridizers going for other characteristics sadly bred the fragrance out.

well I just discovered the sedirea japonica crossed with rhychostilis gigantea, making a rhynchorides dragon charmy which looks amazing so I'd rather think it's a sedirea personally.

As to the phal - far too pink for me anyway

Edit: I have got a rhynchostilis gigantea x vanda memoria thianchai which I am really hoping is going to be fragrant but my research so far says it won't be even though the parents are. We shall see

Yeah, this is the kind of thing the taxonomists are doing to us!

It was Rhynchorides Dragon Charmy back when Phal/Sedirea japonica was consider to be an aerides. You'll note sedirea is just "aerides" spelled backwards.

As sedirea, that hybrid was Rhynchodirea Dragon Charmy. Now, since the parent is a phal, it's a rhynchonopsis.
