Trying to save my first orchid Female
Default Trying to save my first orchid

I was gifted this beautiful phalaenopsis orchid by one of my customers (a florist) in mid April of this year. (This is my first orchid, and I live in southern Georgia, btw.) It was healthy and blooming and absolutely beautiful when I received it! I followed the directions he gave me exactly. It thrived for a bit. But then I noticed that the blooms were dropping, the leaves were yellowing, and the roots didn't look very healthy. I also noticed that the moss was very wet. The cleaning crew at my office had been watering my plant. So I left a note asking them not to! This is the progression of my plant.... It has now lost all of its leaves and upon the florists recommendations, I cut the spikes back to the crown as they had turned brown and were beyond repair. I have since taken my plant home, re-potted it in a mixture of orchid bark and moss and even fertilized. Several of the roots are still very green and healthy looking. However, some are a bit damaged and also yellow. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can save my poor little phal?

Sorry, but unless there's some green left in the center, that's very likely a goner. In that small image, the surface roots look potentially viable, but that's not a lot for the plant to work with.

Time to get a new plant and try again!
