Masdevallia veitchiana leaf drop

I have a Masdevallia veitchiana that was doing so well. Don't normally grow them, but it was given to me about a year ago. I put into S/H when I got it, it was doing great. Put it outside with the rest of the crew in the spring. Fast forward a couple of months. We had a couple of weeks of high 90's to low 100's (F). I lifted this plant up to look closely at it and turn, and almost half its leaves dropped off.

Read up a bit, and now know it can't take Kansas summer heat. It's been back in A/C for two weeks. Leaves continue to drop. Unfortunately, these leaves sat on the counter for three days before I got around to taking a picture.

So the leaves look dehydrated, but they weren't. The top of leaf looks fine when they fall, but the bottom is yellow as you see in the picture.

Haven't removed from the pot yet, as I didn't want to further stress until I got some input. I really don't want to lose it. On Side Two picture you can see one of the okay looking leaves and a fat root if you look closely.

Did I fry this guy? Do you think I should unpot? Or leave as is in my A/C, continue picking up dropped leaves? Would be silly to sphag and bag, as it's already in S/H.

Anyone out there with some experience in frying a Masdevillia veitchiana and recovery mode?

Well,I wouldn't say mine were(past tense)fried but too difficult in my conditions inside. Too bad you didn't research when you got the plant. Would have saved you the heartache. And I even had the plants that were "supposedly" more warmth tolerant. Needless to say,yours may regrow if you can cool it and I wouldn't repot. I've had more success with Restrepias,mounted and potted, if you care to try another cool grower. Clay pots help keeps temps down but watering needs to be increased and good air circulation.

I've fried plenty of Masdies, including a veitchiana, never recovered a single one.

I've tried all manners of growing methods and I've managed to keep one ayabacana alive, not prettily but alive. The same method did not work for a herradurae.

Don't un-pot it. If the veitchiana survives, keep doing what you were doing before the heat.

Well, if wishes were fishes I'd have a net full.

It was given to me by a friend who's an orchid grower. He knows how I grow, so I just figured it could go in with the rest. I have other "cool" growing plants, but pretty much treat all the same. Didn't realize this was such a touchy little guy. It really took well to S/H, likely because of its need for cooler growth. Rats, rats, rats! It didn't go outside last summer, because it was inside getting used to being moved to S/H. I'll leave it be, now that it's back inside, and hope for recovery.

Well, that's not real promising. I won't unpot. Guess it wouldn't really matter. It will either recover or not. If I hadn't had it bloom, I'd likely not be so crushed. The flowers were amazing.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be negative. My point was you were doing good before the heat so stick to that.

LOL... you weren't and I didn't take it that way. Ya know... seeking that "Oh Heck, it'll be FINE! Happens to mine all the time" phrase. Knew it wasn't going to turn out that way, but we can always hope.
