Help withy my 6 year old Dendrobium
Exclamation Help withy my 6 year old Dendrobium

Hi, I have read so much but I am so confused. Please can anyone tell me what I should do with my Dendrobium, it still flowers, and they are beautiful. But I feel it needs attention and I would love to propagate if possible. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Help withy my 6 year old Dendrobium Male
Default

It appears to be a D. nobile hybrid, and you're doing a nice job of growing it.

I am not a dendrobium grower, but can offer some general advice:

I'm assuming the #1 need is repotting, and it may (stressing the "may") be possible to divide it and get new plants. If those old canes are still turgid and green, they are still photosynthesizing and storing water, nutrition and energy for the colony, so you don't want to remove them.

It appears you have two new growths progressing on the right side.If they are growing from different earlier growths, you might consider dividing the plant in two, with each division consisting of a single new growth and 2-, 3-, or more old growths. personally, I wouldn't make a division smaller than that, so if that scenario isn't possible, you might leave the "front" together, and separate 3 or 4 of the oldest growths as a unit, and hope it has some viable "eyes" that can sprout new growth.

Thanks so much Ray, that makes sense and I can try that. I examine the 2 new growths and see if it looks possible to divide. It's been happy in my shower-room. I only moved it as I thought it must need more attention. I started reading up on it and got very confused at what I should do for the best!
