Would this be considered overpotted?

I have these 2 phals that were given to me and are in desperate need of repotting. My orchid pots are most towards larger orchids, maybe around 5 inches, and I was wondering these would be considered too big for these phals? The pots they are in are the disposable floppy plastic ones with no air holes or circulation and a lot of their roots have been choked out.

Probably not, if your potting medium isn't to dense.

Phalaenopsis tend to spread their roots wide to give themselves adequate lateral stability.

It will take longer for a larger pot to dry out. As long as you keep an eye on how the moisture level is inside your pots and adjust accordingly, it should be fine. In low-humidity Southern California, it might turn out to be an advantage.

Will do fishmom! Yeah, my media usually dries out fairly fast. Only thing remotely helping humidity is my fish tanks :P

As long as your Phals have a healthy root system, and as long as your medium is airy and fast-draining, and as long as you keep a close eye on the moisure level, they should do just fine. I really like those slotted clear plastic pots for my Phals. I've got a few of my larger ones in the five-inch size, and they do fine. In fact, they are growing and in need of a repot, but it's hard to find that exact kind of pot in a larger size. One thing you may find is that the roots will end up growing out both the bottom holes and the slots on the sides, so when you need to repot again, you'll probably have to destroy the pot by cutting it away so as not to break the roots.
