Help! What is this? Flower growing from Keiki crown?
Default Help! What is this? Flower growing from Keiki crown?

I have a phal that had root rot. I cleaned it up and repotting several months ago. It soon developed a beautiful Keiki we have been watching and waiting to repot. It suddenly has developed a growth. What is happening here? It sure looks like a flower bug coming directly out of the crown. Should I leave it? Cut it? Is my Keiki going to continue to develop? Any advise is welcome.

Yes, it does look a like it will be a flower. Keikis can be a bit mixed up sometimes, developing from tissue that was intended to spike/flowers. It won't hurt anything to let it develop, but it probably means that your keiki needs to develop its own basal keiki or its time is limited. As long as the mother plant and keiki remain healthy you can give it all the time it needs.

Thank you! I’m hoping mom was just shocked from the roots being badly rotten and cut back. If not I’m hoping this or had other Keiki that just started will take her place.
