Newbie orchidist, needs help!!!! part 2 Male
Default Newbie orchidist, needs help!!!! part 2

Okay eveyone, I'm devoting this thread to my dendrobium orchid that I have. I got it the same time I bought my other. I have the basics for it i.e. humidity trays, sun, etc. I don't know what the exact species is, and it finished blooming a while ago so no pictures of the flowers either... I have some pictures of the plant and it has about a months new growth on it.

Again, any info is greatly appreciated!!!

The den is probably a hybrid, and can take stronger light and warmer temperatures than can the miltassia.

Also, unless the potting medium is "going south", don't be anxious to move the den into a considerably larger pot, For some reason, they prefer to stay somewhat cramped.

It looks relatively happy, and doesn't really look to me like it needs repotting unless the medium is all broken down. It's a Phal type and is evergreen. No winter rest for these. Warm and bright like Ray said.

Will lava rock break down? I think that that is what it's potting medium is.

I had a problem with a Vanda potted in red cinders. The roots all rotted and it finally croaked. I think it depends on the cinder size. If it's really fine it will suffocate the roots. It doesn't decompose really.

Hey everyone! I was curious as to the state of this guys roots so I took him out of the pot He was kind of in a bad way... So I repotted him!!!!! The pot isn't considerably larger, just about an inch or so, and I'm hoping that it will accomidate it for another couple of years!

I'll post some pictures as it establishes itself in the coming weeks.
