moving.

hi, i am moving to a new house (not far from current home) and since we are having an open house, we need to place the plants in the garage. will this have a significant impact the plants? will the move itself also weaken the plants?

How different are the conditions between where they are now and where they be in the future and what duration? How many plants are we talking about?

If the conditions aren't extremely different, should be fine for a few days. For longer duration, you might consider shop lights for them.

i am not entirely sure about the new house' growing conditions but i know it is slightly larger, so space and lighting and such won't be an issue. as for my garage, it is dimmer and only has one window which is usually not opened. i have about 10-15 plants currently. i think i will consider shop lights... thank you for your advice, Anon Y Mouse

the movers had actually placed some of my plants (oncidium, camaridium, epidendrum radicans) on the front porch and it was getting slightly chilly (50-60 ish; that's cold at least for me in California) so i moved them indoors. they had been out there for most of the day and up until 8:45 pm or so. i don't think the plants are damaged though...

Orchids can take just about anything for a few days as long as it's not an extream temperature. They will be fine.

How long will they need to stay in the garage? As long as the temperature is ok, a week or so of low light shouldn't be a problem, unless you have some very fragile plants. I wouldn't be concerned about the move either, orchids are hardy plants. If you have plants in bud or bloom they might blast, but that's about it.

Like others have said. 1 week in subpar conditions are tolerated fine by a majority of the sturdier orchids. In some cases, even 2 weeks can still be tolerated without a hitch.

Stuff like Lepanthes, accommodate ASAP. Do not give these subpar conditions for very long (2 - 3 days max). Low light might be tolerated for a bit longer (about 1 week), but improper temperature ranges or dry out periods, like I mentioned earlier, 2 - 3 days only. They will stress out quite easily.
