Your pictures are amazing!

Thanks! Photography is my other big hobby along with orchids, and I actually got into it because of the orchids. One expensive hobby spawned another, even more expensive hobby... At least photo gear doesn't die as often as plants do!

Nice haul! I'm surprised they were already out of the yellow Maxillaria tenuifolia. They had six or so a few days ago. Should have gotten one myself!

If you're ever in the Roswell area, I can give you some small divisions of a white Den nobile.

I’ve been researching the care requirements for my orchids, and some of the info I find is inconsistent with other info.

Is there a recommended website that I should use as my go-to for quick questions?

Thanks
Ridley

Orchidboard!

In all seriousness, conflicting info is not surprising. There are general requirements for each type of orchid, but it will also depend on environmental conditions. And it also depend on the source. Some of the most reliable sources are either websites of orchid societies, or information on grower websites, but I can't give you any examples off the top of my head.

Many people here grow Max tenuifolia and Onc Sharry Baby (I have/had both), and the Catt will likely want standard Catt conditions (and many people grow those). You can either use the search bar, or post whatever questions you may have.

There is 1 constant with Maxillaria tenuifolia - it originated from Veracruz, Mexico.

This particular orchid has a wide temperature tolerance. But it does better as an intermediate to warm grower (60 F - 90 F). As long as the growing area is within this temperature range, you are fine. This is one particular reason why I suggested this orchid.

It grows under bright indirect light.

Moderate to high relative humidity (50% - 90%).

This orchid is tough. It can take a beating and keep on ticking.

It just likes a good amount of water.

If the Maxillaria tenuifolia experiences temperatures down to 50 F, it will still tolerate it, but it will start to struggle a bit.

shoot, south east! I bet you could grow some outside! On trees even, how perfect!

Maybe it's better to say what to stay away from? I'd stay clear of Miltoniopsis. Someone sent me one, and I'll try to keep it alive, but when summer comes... well, that'll probably be it for that one!

Anyway, I'm in the same boat, except I'm on the west coast where it's hot and dry. So what I chose were some phalaenopsis, cattleyas, a kingianum Dendrobium, catasetums and oncidiums, all kind of common and I figure a good place to start. Nothing expensive if they die, so I can see what works and what I need to do to get the setup just right.

I live about 1 hour to 1.5 hours away from you depending on which city in the San Fernando Valley you're in. You may not have to part with the Miltoniopsis if you grow it in an air conditioned room. If you do not have an air conditioned room to place the orchid in, then you're out of luck with these. It can tolerate temperatures up to 80 F fairly well. Upwards of 85 F and it will definitely not make it. 80 F - 85 F and it will flounder.

LOL, yah, it might be doomed. Even with air it gets 90 sometimes. Maybe I can bring it into the bedroom if it's that bad, I'll try to stay up on that
