Epi. vesicatum care? Female
Default Epi. vesicatum care?

I got this little darling Epi. vesicatum back in November. Has this been renamed? Info on this species seems to be hard to come by, so does anyone have some personal experience with growing it or any culture tips to share? I love the growth habit, the leaves and how the flowers are held like little bouquets at the tips of the growths. I’m trying to figure out a way to best display this species pendant nature and am going between a small basket (not sure if it like to be kept on the slightly moist side?) or a mount (can it handle a bit of drying between watering?). So far it’s been in medium light, slightly less than my cattleyas. Any help is appreciated!

It is endemic to the state of Espirito Santo in Brazil, so that means hot and wet. According IOSPE, fairly deep shade, with maybe mottled sun.

Personally, I'd put it in a basket of loose sphagnum.

Excellent, thanks Ray. Looks like I will stick with a small basket and see how that goes. I will probably use some Med/small orchiata that should hold enough moisture with the daily watering and rain. I put some bulbos in a basket last year and they grew really well, but..... now I’m trying to figure out how to pick out all of the nasty sphagnum without destroying the roots Sounds like I could probably drop the light levels a bit for this guy and grow it a little shadier too.
