Phalaenopsis Root Health in Hydroton, Seramis Medium

Checked on my roots last week and observed something I'd never seen before. Is there a term for the paper like flaking appearance of the tendrils that can be seen in the attached photos?

I'm also curious about the dark strands on the primary root?

It looks like some old spagnum moss fragments adhered to the roots. If I’m interpreting what you’re asking about in terms of lines, these are old leaf veins exposed as the softer tissues rotted away.

If I interpret your comments correctly, that's not a "main root", but the old stalk where leaves have naturally dropped from, that has been planted deeply. Parts of it may fail and decompose over time, but as long as there's are good roots above thaT point, and your culture doesn't overly promote rot, you should have no issues.

Gotcha. I'm pretty sure these came in moss from the store so that seems totally reasonable. Very neat about the old leave veins. Thanks!
