Aliceinwl, I checked for orchid shows around me, but there isn’t anything. You, of course, in Central Cal, must be in heaven. It hasn’t been easy moving out of California because of the many wonderful cultural events California has to offer, but there are some things here I wouldn’t give up now.

So, I am reliant on online shopping. I did have a friend who grew a large variety of orchids successfully in Santa Fe, about three hours south of me but not too different in climate... dry, very high altitude, thirty degree temperature variance daily, not too hot in summer, lots of sunshine all year, snowy sunny winters.

My friend has passed away, but I recall she had a lot of big Cymbidiums, Dendrobiums, some oncidiums, several catts, quite a number of paths and phals. No Vandas. She had a room with tropical fish tanks and exotic birds and orchids. It was definitely humid in there!

You're in a perfect place for Cymbs. Now that I've done my duty to pull back on the reins...perhaps I should send you a couple of starts. You had me at horses.
