Homemade Orchid Wire Ring Support! So proud!
Hey guys! So I am feeling rather proud at the moment and really wanted to showoff my handy work to people who would understand somewhat my excitement!
The other day I was ordering supplies and found the Wire Ring Supports for Orchids that clip on a pots rim....I don't know why but I fell in love with the idea immediately. It just seemed so simple, no having to try and get a stake down through the root zone safely or keep it in one spot for s/h LECA beads, no more balancing little seedlings newest long growth against something to balance their tiny pot, it just seemed so smart and adjustable.
So I started adding them to my cart like crazy and although they aren't super expensive, it adds up pretty darn fast when you have a bunch of orchids so I started really looking at the metal work and thought, I can do THAT!
I went and grabbed 100' of 12 gauge Wire from Home Depot for like $11 and got to work last night with some needle nose pliers!
I gotta say, the finished product turned out better then I ever thought! Molding Wire is a tad harder then expected...primarily straightening it BUT, I did succeed!
I was so proud and tried showing off my handy work to my dad when i was visiting him today....I got a very unenthusiastic, "Huh. You made something for your plants....that's nice honey...."
SO, I decided to turn to my orchidboard friends instead! I may not have conquered growing orchids yet, but I can make a darn good Wire Ring stand for them!
