Doritis pulcherima roots going crazy? Female
Default Doritis pulcherima roots going crazy?

I just bought this Doritis pulcherima and am wondering if it needs a repot. The roots look healthy but is this normal for them to be popping up? I just lost a Doritis and I'm determined to keep this one healthy...please advise experts.

I can't see the medium well enough to tell. If it's old and breaking down I would repot.

I guess my question is...are these roots supposed to be out of the medium this way? Normal for Doritis?

It's common for a lot of orchids to grow roots like that. Sometimes it's because they're very healthy, and sometimes it's because the medium is old and the roots in the medium are rotting.

If the medium is good, remember that these are "air plants" so wild roots are quite normal. However, if you haven't repotted recently, take it out and have a look - any medium needs to have big spaces and lots of air since these want "humid air" around the roots rather than wet, soggy medium.
