Default

all interesting information! Thanks guys

I have a couple more experiments at the moment. One free from a grocery store (the head cashier just gave it to me since all the flowers were dead and I helped her realize why she killed all her houseplants - spoiler - she was drowning them) and the other one a lowes $2 buy marked down for me. (I may have also made friends with the front end manager there, haha) Actually with a chunk of decent roots still. No crown rot. The free one has some crown rot but I seem to have halted it.

what I have been doing is soaking the roots every 1-2 days (depending on how long I can soak them) and then leaving the plants out to dry completely. when I unpotted them I took off all the rotten roots, and left them out to dry and callous off for a full week. While this seems to be doing well, it's way to much work for a long term solution. But so far it does seem a viable way to rescue a sick plant (for rot at least).

I bought some black lava rock to experiment with, but a single chunk doesn't seem to wick water up as well as I was hoping, it's only damp maybe 2 inches above the water line. (I was hoping to try kind of a self watering mount).

But bonus! there is a hydroponic store in my town! and they carry leca and growstone and lighting and ALLLLL kinds of useful things
