I have a couple of phalaenopsis that grow in the north-facing (in the southern hemisphere) window of my study. In the winter, they are in very bright light (about 2,500 foot-candles) for two to three hours a day - see photo attached - and moderate light for the rest of the day. They are thriving and their leaves show only the tiniest amount of bronzing.
I water them in the kitchen sink and recently I accidentally ran quite a lot of hot (80°C) water into the larger one - I quickly rinsed it in cold and it showed no ill effects.
There's a kebab shop near my work that has a phal in the window, that thing gets blasted by the midday sun through the window every day and doesn't show any signs of sun-damage. So yeah I think if they are allowed to slowly adapt to the sun they should be fine.
Hi. Your setup looks relaxing and productive both for you and phals. I've also done the hot water faux-pas but with no ill effects. Enjoy them. BTW...any Papillon pix...please?

Oh my,they're gorgeous. OB has a Pet Forum(Depot) which you'll find under Site Menu. I'm petless at the moment but would be knockin' on your door for a sweet one all my own. Foster people rock! TY for indulging me.
