Gram Speciosum with Shrooms
Default Gram Speciosum with Shrooms

hi guys,
I have a gram spec in a 14 inch pot. It is probably not far from a repot, one season most likely. It is currently sprouting mushrooms in between the above medium roots. Yes, there is a fungus amongus. Anyway, does anyone know if this could be bad, good, no effect? This only started after it was confined to a new wardian case and the ambient humidity was up to about 60%, just in case that matters.
thanks

I'd think if conditions support mushrooms, than other fungi may proliferate. I'd be scared that something bad might grow. I don't grow Grams, but I do have a little home made orchidarium. Any time I see any fuzzy stuff, I increase air circulation to avoid catastrophe.

The role fungus has is breaking down dead organic matter. A mushroom is merely the fruit of the fungus so the fungus has been there most likely for a while. Unless you want spores of this fungus over everything in your wardian case, I would spray those mushrooms with physan and maybe lay of the watering a bit on the gramm if it can handle it.

She is a rather hearty plant, most if not all of the psuedobulbs have no shrinkage. I will dose her with a fungicide and starve the boogers out.
Thx

boardybell, I like orchids, and I like mushrooms - just not together. It sounds like you have things under control. Take some photos for us before they all die out. It sounds like it looks neat!

Ah royal, you were two minutes to late. I plucked them today from the mass of roots. They looked neat, but I figured it was better to be without them despite the neato factor. If they come back, I might photo them. One was pretty healthy with a 2" head on it.
