What's the software? Does it have the ability to export your data (and in a format that's useful)? What operating system? What was the old hardware? What about the new hardware?
The best idea is to figure out the a way to migrate to a software project that's actively maintained and for which tools exist to import and export the data in widely supported formats (XLS, CSV, JSON, etc).
Another option would be to migrate/convert the old computer's OS installation to a virtual machine then run the virtual machine on your new computer using virtualization software like VirtualBox or VMWare. This would require a bit of technical knowledge or the ability to follow instructions but it would keep the software running.
If all of this sounds like technical mumbo-jumbo to you, then you might have to give up and just scrap the 1,000 records, continue to run the software on the old computer only, or pay someone to help you out.
