Roberta 07-02-2021 11:02 AM

Sometimes tags inhibit blooming... those NOIDs grow and bloom just to say "Nyahhhh, I don't need a name!" Looks great!

DirtyCoconuts 07-02-2021 11:24 AM

awesome!!!

the way roots hug bark is just amazing!

Roberta 07-07-2021 02:25 PM

Beautiful... just drop it into a large pot to hold it until after it blooms, then repot.

Some serious new roots plus going on there ShadeFlower. What is it?

Shadeflower 07-10-2021 04:40 PM

It's a Cattleya Toshie's Magic. Seems a strong hybrid but I've only had it just over 6 months.

WaterWitchin 07-10-2021 05:10 PM

Well, fun and interesting. I actually have that one. It's a very confusing hybrid... My tag says Blc. and I've seen it listed as Rhyncholaeliocattleya. I don't care, and haven't delved into it. But it sure blooms well. Enjoy!

Roberta 07-10-2021 05:16 PM

I took a look at Orchidwiz... it used to be Blc (Brassolaeliocattlea) but the "brasso" part is actually Rhyncholaelia digbyana (Used to be Brassavola digbyana, but not for a long time, and it is very different from the true Brassavolas) , so now it is Rlc (Ryncholaleliocattleya). Phew... but this name is likely to stick. A lot less messy than some...

isurus79 07-10-2021 06:25 PM

So many great roots on all these posts!!

WaterWitchin 07-10-2021 06:27 PM

You just keep up with that crap Roberta! Someone has to. Meanwhile Imma keep ignorant and stay happy! Funny how we all do this passion differently and all enjoy equally. Love it, and grateful for those who keep track of the stuff I don’t. :bowing

Roberta 07-10-2021 06:57 PM

Just part of the challenge... I do like the esoterica.

SADE2020 07-14-2021 06:22 PM

It ALL counts in my book! Excellent!

DirtyCoconuts 07-15-2021 10:09 AM

I love it.
Phals have some of the best roots!

isurus79 07-15-2021 04:00 PM

Definitely counts! As do previous folks who have questioned whether or not their plant counts!

Dusty Ol' Man 07-15-2021 08:38 PM

Talked to a friend today who had this noid phal. I gave care instructions. Thought you would like to see what I found.

Just repotted this zygo in January and it’s crawling out of the pot. It’s kind of a freak!

Now there's a zygo with game! I'm mostly amazed by how pristine those leaves are. Kudos to you in several arenas. :bowing

Niiiiice!

Jeff214 07-25-2021 12:12 PM

These roots just don't like being in the pot and the plant has a vertical growing habit. More of less just growing in full sun and air. What is wrong with this thing! haha.

Beautiful roots! That plant (ID?) is telling you that it doesn't like pots... suggest hanging it up (or put on a plant stand to get it off the ground, anchor well so it doesn't get knocked over or blow over...) and let it go wild.

Thanks. It's an Epicatarthron Hilo Adventure (Cattleya Motte Spot × Epiarthron Kevin Mark Ragbir). It's one of those plants that keeps getting bigger, no matter how many times you divide it up...

Oh wow, that one is gorgeous! If it were mine, I'd just drop the whole thing into a larger terracotta pot (perhaps with an inverted pot at the bottom to create an air space and give the roots some more vertical growing space), no medium in the space between pots unless maybe some rocks for weight and to hold things in place. And just let it do its thing.

Shadeflower 07-25-2021 01:21 PM

The roots are more impressive than the flowers on that one :bowing

WaterWitchin 07-25-2021 04:41 PM

Wow, and Yes to what SFlower says! ^^

DirtyCoconuts 07-26-2021 05:06 PM

i find more and more that for Catt family orchids, the pots are JUST for balance and stability.....they have no use for them

Just want to share my little eureka moment. Yes sad me guiding a root into a vase is my eureka moment lol but this root had other idea's and wanted to grow out into the wide open. Now it's safely where it should be.

Roberta 08-03-2021 03:17 PM

Great looking root!

Shadeflower 08-03-2021 03:39 PM

It's strong too. You know how weeds sometimes manage to break through concrete pathways? With this one I will have to watch out it doesn't try to crack my vase

WaterWitchin 08-03-2021 04:01 PM

Bend it to your will! :whip:

DirtyCoconuts 08-04-2021 01:18 AM

That root is straight up trying to intimidate me. And it’s working.
