Looked up Brisbane, Queensland and it tells me we are 28 degrees south.

But we are in more sub tropical micro climate here as we are on a Southern Morton Bay Island.

That micro climate equals a more coastal climate in the Tropic of Capricorn area or 23.5 degrees south.

The water around the Bay Islands temp does not go under 16c or 60f.

We get very few nights here under 10c or 50f.

Our day temp rarely goes under 20c or 70f. In the colder day times the temp sits at mostly 26c or 80f.

Our cold weather comes from S/W'ly winds from the Southern Ocean close to 2,000kms or 1,250 miles from here. That usually comes in August in 3 day blasts at a time.

We have had a couple of colder days but the orchid are still growing.

The tillandsia's are growing at full speed ahead. Nice as 95% of sales come from outside Australia and this supply no longer exists. Prices are rising and numbers and variety of plants is thinning out.

The importing of tillandsia into Australia looks like it will never take place again because of that bacteria.

Australia does not have a native tillandsia. The closest thing is bearded lichens the Usnea and others.

Tomorrows temp is a top of 26c or 79f & a low 15c or 60f.

Tillandsias aren't hard to grow from seed, which can be disinfected. Does the agricultural office permit non-infected seed into the country?

Have been playing around with tilly seed that I have collected from my own plants with some success but it is very slow. Believe at this point the seed is free from the bacteria so importing seed is maybe OK. But I have read so much on this subject it is all get a jumbled up at present.

It looks like the tilly's here will grow for the full 12 months. I am watching pups that are half the size + of the parent plant since November/December.There is something very special about our environment here for growing tilly's. I am strongly of the belief that the wind off the sea grass beds and other marine matter is feeding my plants. Totally interesting.

Have managed to get a lot of stock to grow on. Have my shelving 4 high with the top one being a hanging shelf.
