Default Orchid medium, GreenMix

I bought some orchids from Denmark, from Hans Christiansen. He obviously grows nice orchids, seeing all his awards.

He uses GreenMix for almost all of his plants- of course it depends on what kind of orchid species it is (I asume), but made me curious.

Gonna post pics of the orchids again later, but here you can see the mix- its non-organic and his orchids really seemed healthy.

This is how it looks in the start.

Then it starts to grow moss

He said "if you don't keep the moss growing, you aint giving it enough water" they like rainwater, its not water that kills most, its lack of oxygen.

So keep it green, mrs

And look at those adorable bulbs- thats pure bliss to look at, my first NOID orchids😃
*proud mommy*

I'll let you know what I think about the medium later, never tried this before. But I do use perlite myself in some of my mixes, so I think its gonna work out great😎

I don't know what the water retention and water repellent granules are but I've heard others use rock wool successfully (something I've been interested in trying).

Keep us updated on the mix.

Perlite and vermiculite maybe? And rock wool.

I kinda like the idea, and it makes sense, interesting, looking forward to see how it works out

I tried rock wool last year in some pots, it was awful! I hated it...and about that moss....some oxalis are rooting in it besides the moss, and that will interfere with your orchid roots....

back in the old days, when I was young and learning, I was taught that moss in the top of the pot means your media is broken down....it does look pretty tho, and with a non-organic media, I guess it doesn't matter....boy, I am getting old!
