It was my Brassia Rex 'waiomao spotless'. I had noticed some rot but we were in the middle of moving so I didn’t do anything until we were settled in the new house. By then it was too late Unlike yours however, mine was a gorgeous healthy plant when I bought it...it took me almost a year to kill. Live and learn I guess...
Good luck finding a replacement ♡

Question about crown rot. I left my Phal which is in bloom outside overnight and it rained.
Would this one time cause crown rot? I sprinkled cinnamon in the crown, figured it wouldn't hurt.

It is a beauty. Do you know the name? Maybe even if the vendor won't replace it for free, is it worth asking if they have another the same to order and pay for? Maybe they would give a partial discount under the circumstance.
OK, I re-read your post and see you already e-mailed them. Did you hear anything??

Oh that is even worse when you put so much effort and time into a plant and it craps out on you. I've been there. The bright side is that I've seen quite a few waiomao spotless for sale so hopefully you'll be able to replace it soon!

Leaving it out in the rain isnt inherently bad. Its letting the water sit in the crown, more specifically, letting it go stagnant that gives you issues. If you have good air flow and the plant is able to dry thoroughly you shouldn't have to worry about rot.

Yes, the name is vandachostylis vinita 'florida Suncoast' x. Vanda mimi palmer. Ive tried several routes to contact the vendor but with show season i guess its difficult to get in touch. I will keep this page updated with my results hopefully they are understanding.

Good luck with replacing it. I looked in OrchidWiz and it has a registered name of Vanchoanthe (Vct.) Florida Blues in case that helps with your search. Florida Suncoast Orchids registered it in 2014 so maybe you should contact them if a replacement from your vendor does not happen.

It was totally my own fault...I'm trying to concentrate on not killing what's currently in my collection before adding/replacing any (we all know how well that will probably go lol).

Pretty flower, sorry for your loss! I understand your feelings towards buying your first Vanda and then losing it. I just got my first one a month ago and amazingly enough the flowers are still present. I put it in a glass pot fearing I couldn't keep up with 'moisturizing' the roots if I just showered it every morning. Now I see at least one root turning white and I feel concern. Interesting that after killing half a dozen mini Catts when I see another crashing I'm like, 'Damn' but am more desensitized vs. my feelings towards screwing up with the Vanda.
NYC has a good point to go with your gut or suffer the persuasion! Can't blame you though, it's like getting a dish that passes you b/c it looks good no matter how you feel about having beef for dinner! I hope you are able to get another & things go well with it.

The problem is that it is so easy to buy the flower, without looking closely at other things.
When I used to keep koi, there was a checklist you needed to go thru, and NEVER buy just for the pattern.
Does it have all it's fins? (Don't laugh....it happens)
Body shape ok?
Is the white good?
Is the red good?
Is the black good?
and last of all, the pattern OK.
Perhaps someone could come up with a similar list for orchids.
