Default Are colored eggs bad candidates for use in pots?

Given that Easter has just passed us - Happy Easter to those how celebrate it btw - many of us have hard boiled eggs with colored shells. Can I use these shells to crush and put in my mini Catt pots or would the food coloring have adverse effects?

Thanks guys!

Yes, your orchids will end up looking like those weird blue ones sold in the floral department of the grocery store, all dyed in tie die colors.

No, it should be fine, those are food grade colorings.

I agree! Too bad the flowers don't get to pick up a little of the color, though. It would be cool.

Lol, thanks. I didn't worry so much that they'd change color - though I did wonder a little - after learning that they inject dye into those orchids spikes, that it's not like Carnations. From what I understand you can't just 'feed' them colored water to change their color. I still have my 'blue' Phal from last year. There was actually a name on the plastic pot it was in, 'Pink Pirate', & a number. It is in fact a pink Phal.

My sister has a ton of eggs she and my mom made for my niece and they don't plan to eat them all so I was like hey, share with me. NOT ONLY will I make delicious deviled eggs and egg salad but I will crush those shells up and hook my Catts up! (Though I am a bit late given I lost at least half of the mini Catts I bought last year. Ooops.)

You're well on your way to learning more about Catts then...if you lost half of them (lol).

I hate the practice of selling died color flowers on orchids...people should know what they're buying and not discover their blue phal is really a pink.

So long as you know that the dye used was graded for human consumption, go ahead!

My sisters and I paint our Easter eggs with regular arcylic paint, not food dye, so they're definitely not appropriate to use.

Yeah. First time I saw one of those I thought WOW! and then caution kicked in and I checked. Boy was I disappointed.

Over here they even spray the cactus with colours and stick dried flowers on them.

Wow bil that's kind of messed up, spray them and stick on flowers, lol. People are ridiculous.

The blue one I bought was the only one of its kind on the stand of plants, it was love at first sight. When I looked closely at it I could see where the dye had been injected on the spike but I didn't care (though at the time I didn't know how it's done).

Luckily I was anxious to see what the real flowered looked like although it is an unfair tactic if you ask me b/c I probably wouldn't have picked another pink Phal had I of known. Not to mention I think most people like blue flowers but few know that there's not really a 'true blue' in Orchids, especially not Phals. So it's definitely a dirty trick.
