Default nodosa potting medium

I acquired a B Nodosa about 3 months ago. It is in a 4 inch clay pot with moss. Plant is about to bloom. It is rather root bound and has very little media in it. I want to repot after it blooms. Should I use moss or a fine grade Catt media.

I keep my nodosa in medium grade bark, allow it to get just about dried out between watering, then give it a good thorough drenching. From what I recall, these guys enjoy being a bit root bound.

Depending on the humidity levels where you live, adding some moss to the new pot may help it hold in moisture better (an absolute must during winter where I live) or it may retain too much water in a humid environment. It sounds like whatever you're doing right now must be working if you're getting flowers. Generally I'd recommend sticking with the same potting media and growing conditions after re potting since your guy is apparently thriving.

being root bound with very little media in it is why they grow well. orchids don't need need much to hold em up. you can toss em on the kitchen counter and hose em down on occasion and they would grow. The media YOU need is the one thats going to fit YOUR conditions for the plant. The orchid doesnt need anything.

so when you ask what kind of mix does my plant need?. Ask yourselves also what kind of mix do I Need so my plant grows in the conditions I have?...

I tell you I hold mine up in chunky orchiata bark, dyna rok and charcoal. Nothing fancy. They do get lots of sun water and humidity most of the year in a toy greenhouse that give me lots of grief. Very little media as they tend to grow out of it anyway. They always seem to run from whatever you stick them in. The roots tend to grow in and on everything cept the mix

I grow mine in a wooden basket with lava rock. The plant seems
to be very happy with it. It grows tons of roots and gave me 5 spikes this year. I used larger rocks, about 1 inch across. The roots grow in and out and around those rocks then they start growing out between the slats of the basket. At some point in time it will be one huge ball I think!....Jean

I mounted mine on a tree fern slab. The roots are growing around and even through it.
The slab holds quite a lot of water

When I got the plant from an on line grower it came to me in a clay pot. I thought this was a bit odd as I thought commercial growers did not use them. After I did a little inspection of the pot I discovered there was no media in it at all. The plants roots are holding it up. I thought that because there is no room for root expansion that it should be put into a little bigger pot. Thanks for all the replies.

I gave up on pots for my B. Little Stars and mounted it on a slab of locust bark. Suddenly it has roots growing everywhere, no rot issues (finally!), and plenty of new growth.
