Next month (finger cross) I'll be in Hawaii for work thingies, don't know whether I can sneak out to do some orchid hunting, but could the Hawaiians here suggest some nurseries in case I could sneak away?

A lot depends on which island you'll be on.
Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii do have retail nurseries, Kauai might, any others - probably not.
Check here:
Orchid Growers of Hawaii
The nursery referred to in this thread is a wholesale nursery that is closing its doors.
I have no other experience with orchid suppliers except those I bought from at the Hilo Orchid Show.
Most Hawaiian nurseries specialize in hybrids of the various genera for the wholesale trade only.
All the cheap $5 orchids I pick up at the farmers markets are their leftovers and culls.
I have a hard time finding the species orchids that are of primary interest to me.
Plus, because of the large wholesale trade, Hawaii is very restrictive for importing from ouside the state.
