Default Flowering out of Season

Has anyone had this happen to them and does it mean anything?

This is an oldish Den speciosum (Thelychiton speciosum) that has been getting a fair bit of sun recently and has sprouted what i think is a flower spike. Dens usually start to spike in August so this is weird. I'm wondering whether its the excess sun that's caused an old Den cane to remember how to flower or whether it means the plant is taking a turn for the worst and decided to flower quick to reproduce.

Any ideas?

As far as I know, a lot of the Dens can bloom whenever they feel like. It could be stressed or it could be REALLY happy. It doesnt look that stressed to me (although it is definitely grown under "hard" conditions), but who knows!!

In my experience, a change in growing conditions - especially light - will often trigger a plant to flower, whether it be in 'season' or not. My feeling is that this could very well be the case for your Den. and not that something is wrong.

Last autumn one of my Sarco. Burgundy On Ice's sent up a spike as did several of my nobile Dendrobiums. The growing seasons of several of my Australian terrestrials has been out of whack for a few years. I suspect the plants are just responding to the unusual weather patterns we've been experiencing over the last few years.
