Default Flowering out of Season

Has anyone had this happen to them and does it mean anything?

This is an oldish Den speciosum (Thelychiton speciosum) that has been getting a fair bit of sun recently and has sprouted what i think is a flower spike. Dens usually start to spike in August so this is weird. I'm wondering whether its the excess sun that's caused an old Den cane to remember how to flower or whether it means the plant is taking a turn for the worst and decided to flower quick to reproduce.

Any ideas?
