Cultural differences within the same language are quite common, and can be a problem in international situations. There are words used in US English that are considered rude in UK English. We get used to it as we are bombarded by so much US TV and Films, but I still do a double take at certain words, then realizing that what I am watching is from the US I ignore it.
I'm not sure what spanish word/phrase was a problem here (and I don't need to), but it looks like it was unintentional to upset anyone.

I agree completely!! The comment was not meant (I'm sure by any of us) to upset anyone. I do apologize if this was the case.
It's a Mexican expression of patriotism, but you're right, Mexico's Spanish is different from say Colombia's Spanish... we're sorry!
