Cym. Little Black Sambo leaves yellowing and wilting
My little black sambo leaves are starting to yellow severely and are dropping off. I am afraid this is due to the heat pack wearing out and them being on the cold side when I was able to get them open.
1.) was this caused by the freeze? OR
2.) Is/Are the old bulb leaves dropping off because there are new babies coming in and they are transferring the energy to them????
Also when I say yellow I mean old leaves like that of a catasetum leaves.

cym pbulbs grow for two years and then the leaves die off while the new pbulbs grow. I've been able to keep the old leaves for three years but the energy is sent to the new growth. It is doing well if there are new growth coming up around the old pbulbs. Do not saturate the roots.

This is the type that has to have a full winter drought to be able to develop new blooms and growth. Whew! I think it may have been pushed along with the freeze.
But, I do see definitive new growth outlines coming in. and some even new growths.

I think you want to watch the new growth. If it continues on developing, then I'd say all is well.
When you mean old pbs, you're not talking about the pb from which the new growth is coming out of, right?
I ask you this because the leaves on that pb should be all intact and green for a couple of years at least like one member pointed out.
This is a warm grower, I believe a hybrid between warm growers, and at least one of them is from Australia. The natural habitat is rather dry and warm, although I think it does get cool at certain times of the year.
Remember "dry" season is not the same dry as in regular household during the winter time. That is drier than desert. lol
Dry seasons would have much less raining. There might be heavy fogging, early morning dews, rain (again less but still rains).
If you do not water for the entire winter, you will end up with nearly (if not completely) dead plant, so be careful.
I always kept the pb plump and it flowered perfectly fine in June or so.

I grew and bloomed the LBSambo for about four years and never gave it any type of dry season. Don't confuse dry-er with the plant needing to remain bone dry all winter.

This ill information about "dry rest" should really go!
Not even cacti will survive the entire winter of no water. I killed quite a few. crisp dried up mess!
