Let me try again - if you are getting new growths the plant needs to be watered.

I watered my plant thoroughly, then didn't water again until it was dry.

Okay. It was watered thouroughly when I fist got it to get it out of the media. Now definitive growths at thia point but am seeing possibilities of what I think is growth.

Oh and how exactly does one kill a cactus?

Well, I was not being generous enough with watering for them. lol

They will reduce in size as they loose water reserve inside them. This goes for long enough time, they will end up as shriveled up mess.
Just like any plants when there is no water available to them. Cacti just take a longer time before they reach the end.

Okay. Interesting. See here we just pear burn em and then spray them w poison so they will not come back. Lol. Interesting. I counted on my cym today and on one of the 3 bulbs it has 2 growths coming in. But not enough even by catasetum standards of growth and water regimen. So I will leave it alone and just mist every 4-5 days.
