How to train a Catt... spike
I have this Cattleya that is putting out multiple blooming spikes. I'm very excited. But I notice that the spikes are not going straight up, but rather at very wide angle, almost flat like the leaves. I'm ok with this, but was wondering if there was some technique used to train the spikes so they point up, and have the flowers in an up down direction, nice and neat. Thanks.

Try the peanut Styrofoam support, then as they grow longer stake it.

I have seen Catt spikes staked like you might stake another type.

I staked it and managed to do it with a very short spike that was relatively far from the edge of the pot. I did it without hurting it either. Can't wait to see it in bloom!!

Two flowers opened today, they are pinkish lavender. From other years where it has bloomed, I noticed that the colour turns more pinkish with time. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. I've got two more spikes coming, number of buds unknown..
