Fish/Seaweed Fertilizer users

KelpMax sounds like my choice then.

I mix everything in the bathtub just in case of spills. lol

The Neptune's Harvest product I use is the fish/seaweed blend. The NPK numbers aren't immediately obvious on the label, and I suspect that's on purpose. The manufacturer probably doesn't want to promote it as a fertilizer, in case somebody might want to mix it up to 200 ppm N (like most inorganic fertilizer producers recommend with their products - this would be a ridiculous overdose for orchids).

I have two flasks' worth of phal seedlings, and originally, I split them up into two groups: NH and K-Lite with KelpMax, at the same N concentration. Both groups grew well, but the NH group was a little better. I no longer keep the group split; I water/feed them the same way, whether I'm using NH or KL at that particular time. I rarely use KelpMax anymore.

I suppose one might consider that, Terry, but I don't really think of it that way, as in its pure state is only equivalent to a 0.36-0.82-0.72 fertilizer, and if it is used primarily for the auxin content, and if you apply that at the tablespoon-per-gallon rate I recommend, only contributes 14 ppm N.

Conversely, if you did try to use it as a fertilizer, in order to apply sufficient macro nutrients, you'd be SO overdoing the hormones, I believe it might cause problems.

Ray, I am trying to feed at very low fertilizer concentrations on a regular basis. For most of the year, I am currently using 10 mL K-Lite and 10 mL of Kelpmax into 8,000 mL of water (1:1 RO/tap) which results in:

21.5N - 11.25P - 10K in terms of PPM

and gives a good pH and low EC for the solution.

I know the potential downside to this is that I never give an auxin load as is recommended, instead giving the constant lower level concentration.

I know you are targeting about 30 ppm N in SH so I have a little room to move up with the Kelpmax if needed.

Here in sub tropical South Africa I have found the fish\ seaweed products to be excellent as growth stimulants, alternated with a fertilizer that has all the necessary elements. I use all of them as foliar & as root drenches, but at a dilution to half recommended strength. I also mist quite heavily about half an hour after foliar feeding, using plain water with no added fertilizers because I think that aerial roots could get damaged by the concentration of mixes which might dry at the root tips. The smell lasts for only a few hours at most, even indoors.

I've been using the seaweed fertilizer that Ray sells and my orchids are so happy I hear 70's disco music when I step out into the grow area.NO. REALLY. My grammatophyllums all of a sudden are like WASSUP YO!!!, as are all of my orchids.

I can discern a slightly fishy smell-and this comes from a person who is VERY sensitive to smells of any kind. I've used fish and seaweed and CANNOT stand the smell, but this formulation isn't offensive at all.

There is no fish in it. It's a "seaweed (ocean)" scent.

Yeah, I am totally fine with seaweed stuff, but I was thinking of using the mixed one which has both seaweed and fish, and this stuff smelled like something else when I opened the bottle.

I think I'll just forget about using it. lol

$25 is sooooooooooo worth it, for what it does. And it's good for two years in that bottle.
