Any reason why my first paph bloom has brown in it?
Default Any reason why my first paph bloom has brown in it?

Hey everyone, I purchased this plant about 2 months ago

Paph Oriental Jewel Ladyslipper Orchid Blooming Size Green Stripes | eBay

It went into bud right away and is blooming now. But it seems that the inside pouch has brown/red discoloring on it that seems to be getting bigger. Any ideas?

Possibly water got into the crown as the bud developed? Difficult to tell for sure.

old age....while they do stay open for months, eventually the flower expires...that is what you are seeing....

I agree it could have been water in development, or just the age of the flower now - it could also be over-watering the plant in general. Doing so can make paph buds expire prematurely.

Old age of the overall plant or the bloom? This bloom is brand new and isnt even fully erect. It just opened last week.

If it's that new it's not old age of the flower. And not the age of the plant in general. It's probably a water issue, from some point.
