...shelving that is. I'm tired of the gross looking wire racks that I've had to replace time and again due to that very unattractive rust. Realistically, I could just continue to replace them, but then I decided I'm tired of doing so: 1) they aren't cheap--I buy the wide units and they are almost 200.00 bucks a pop. I've had to replace them several times 2) I don't have the yard space to grow things horizontally--i.e, shadehouse, greenhouse, etc, 3) my plants are doing really well growing on racks.
Last night, as I was fertilizing, I realized that I am officially out of room- again. I don't like to pack plants too closely together because I firmly believe that proper air circulation prevents diseases and/or the buggies.
So I had a choice: Go to the big box store to get yet another wire rack that's going to rust within the year, or buy something more permanent. I decided to go industrial. I just bought an aluminum shelving unit that is guaranteed against corrosion. One unit costs 3 times as much as the wire racks I've been using, (BIG GULP) ,but I think that it will pay for itself in the end because I won't have to keep replacing it. Further, I can match it with some greenhouse tables I've seen online that are also constructed of aluminum and also with the tiered shelving from Bactra that I plan on buying for some of my plants.
I have a narrow growing space, so instead of spreading out, I have to think in terms of growing UP, which forces me to be a bit creative. I'm discovering that I have to think outside the box so to speak, to find solutions to something as simple (yet complicated) as rusting shelves.
I should get the unit by December.
I'm going industrial.....
