Do not buy this woman orchids or jewelry for a surprise. (Or cut flowers, hate them!)

I know it's the thought that counts but 99% sure that it won't be what I want when I want it. I'll just be disappointed that YOU don't know me better.

(No holiday or birthday giving either. Gifts should NOT be a calendar obligation.)

I am glad that I am not the only one. We have plants all over the house and they are all mine. Gee...what could be my interest/hobby? What might I really like? (*bang head against the wall*)
I, too, order plants and tell my dear spouse they are for my gift. There is no other way. :|

See, now, I always hint that I have an orchid wish list and exactly where it is. I think I am going to get creative this year.

Yeah...my family will not encourage my orchiding....nor my cooking equipment either...if they did I would fall over dead...but that would also be w a list I give them. Lol

my ex-husband had a grandmother who was a real gem...I think I married him just to get her! she told me that when she was a young girl, a suitor asked her what kind of flower she liked the best, and so, thinking of the most expensive flower she could think of, she said 'orchids'....he bought her a dozen orchids, lol....when she was in the hospital dying, I sent her a dozen sprays of cattleyas and cymbidiums and whatever else I could find at a cut flower dealer....she loved it! they lasted longer than she unfortunately, but I was so in love with that old woman, I was glad to do it and bring her pleasure at the end....

congrats on having such a charming boyfriend!

My DH just stands back and leaves the matter of buying orchids in my hands. He really does not have a clue as to which ones would survive in our climate anyway. However, he does keep the GH in working order including repairs when a tree limb breaks the fibreglass, installing an intake and exhaust fan setup, and a temperature monitoring system so I can keep track of the temps from in the house. Now I need to inveigle him into building me a new GH.

(No, I really do need a new, better designed one and even have the money to pay for it.)

When I started saving orchids from constructions in the jungle my boyfriend got me an orchid book. When I visited him in Canada there was an orchid on my bed table. When I moved to Canada there were 3 more orchids and he had put a table for them next to the window. When last month he asked me to marry him... well of course I said yes!

My husband is awesome! He buys me orchids and has spent such a considerable amount of time (after work and on weekends) building my orchid house....even in the rain. (Since it wouldn't stop!)

I'm very fortunate and know it. He buys me orchids and when we're together in the presence of them, he's always encouraging me to buy what I want.

I NEVER mind getting an orchid as a gift. Sure makes it easier for my family AND it really means a lot to me as down through the years, I have put tags with the date and name of the person who gave me the gift. It's kind of a sentimental thing I guess.

I've noticed that even my kids seem to have an interest in the orchids as they always go out to see what's blooming!
