Wow, that is COLD NIGHT! I wish I could give advise, but something like 50+ is our FEW WINTER NIGHTS we have, and I do not move anything ever from balcony (except when hurricane passes), so no help from me, but I guess if these temps are going to be for a days than you must move. I know that Grammatophyllum HATES cold weather and it will loose the leaves if exposed to anything under maybe 60 or 70, I do not remember, so you should really check the temps requirements!
I can't either, So I feel my family shall be hissy fitting again, because they will all be coming back in again. Its just at night though is the thing, during the day they get nice bright warm 80*+ weather until around 7:00 then it cools off again and by 6:30 the next morning its 70* again....
Most orchids can take 50 F at night easily even the "warm" ones, especially if it is only for a night or two and get plenty warm in the day. it will be important to make sure that they are reasonable dry by night fall, Wet and cold is generally not a good combination.
I still have my Phals (warm lovers) outside and it is getting into the high 40F here at night these days. I'll start bringing in my warm lovers in a week or two.
@cbuchman thanks! We have had 2 days of really good rain for us so they are all still slightly damp. But I am hoping they are all okay since we have had 2 good days of 80*+ warm weather..
My orchids are outside and the temps for late September are in the low 50's at night and 70's during the day. I am in zone 6A by mid to late October the temps will be below the 40's at night and it will be time to bring them in.
