What orchid Excites you the most when it blooms?

Try growing Brassavola nodosa as a lithophyte if you're not having luck growing it any other way.

In the wild, they grow as an epiphyte and a lithophyte.

Right now, Bulbophyllum albocilliatum. Had it for years. Almost killed it off. Took some time to regrow. First time blooming. What's not to be excited about it!

Island Girl, really? I just google it and I love it, I want it but it says cool to cold growing, days max 26 celsius, night drop to 11 celsius, it is impossible in miami, and way over, I am amazed you have it growing and blooming, wow! jealous, gorgeous!

Eskevingo, your grow it too, Restrepia antennifera in Puerto Rico? Now I am really hooked, I read it is cold to cool, it is not possible than:-) I want one!

Can't explain it, except that maybe I got one that came from warmer-growing parents??... I was surprised a little too, but it's happy!

@King, Thank You! I had considered that actually, but I will definitely do it now... With the second one (last year), I think I was overwatering, and had made the mistake of not repotting when I got it... (It was in very fine bark, that looked good from the top ), oh, and sunburn, then wind damage blown off the railing... RIP... Anyways.. The first time, it was (a while ago, like 5-6 years ago), in one word: neglect... They can't bloom if they don't get enough light, or water

:-) If Eskevingo grows one in Puerto Rico than it is GO! I actually found restrepia trichoglossum which looks very similar and is warm to cold growing, tolerates higher temps, so I think I will test that one:-) YOU DID IT AGAIN, you always show me such a gorgeous orchids I have never heard about! Still wanna see your bday list, I am sure there will be a LOT that goes to my list!

Just checked IOSPE and it does say cool to cold growing. I've grown it as a warm grower for about 3 years no prob.

I get most excited when I figure out how to get a new orchid to bloom in my conditions. If I could get my cool growing masdevalias to bloom outdoors, I would be thrilled. It's a bit too hot/cold for them here with the temperatures fluctuating outside their range in both directions. I'm trying to keep the roots cool with drip irrigation and wet mulch outside the pot. Many use clay for cooling, but it gets hot and dry if the drip system malfunctions. I think these Masdies hate dry even more than hot. I definitely like the challenge.

I know Eskevingo, I am checking that website for everything now prior to my purchases, and different sites as well, just to make sure the orchid will grow here, and not to make mistake like in the past, that's why I am very surprised you can grow it and make it bloom, so I will give it a shot I guess!

Don't look at the IOSPE's meter or what Jay says when he mentions that they're cold to cool growing. Those are his interpretations of things.

Look at the elevations that the orchids come from and where the orchids are coming from, (which country + what kind of habitat) and do research on that.

I'm looking at the countries of origin and the elevations that Retrepia trichoglossa has been recorded to be found in, and I think that this orchid has a wide range of temperature tolerances (anywhere between 36 F - 95 F).
