Default Good candidates for mounting

Okay, I have recently come into possession of a paph Gode Froyea, there are currently only 2 roots on it (the entire central root fell off in my hand when I removed it from its pot. It is also in bloom I was wondering if this would be a good candidate for mounting. since it will hopefully have some new growth at some point....

Hmm... I have no idea. Most Paphs are semi-terrestrial, and nor good candidates for mounting - but I can't say for sure about all Paphs ...

Hopefully some others can advise.

Hmm, I would agree. Not sure I've seen people mounting Paphs, as Sonya says they are semi-terrestrial.

Seaweed extract sounds a good idea. If you still have two bits of root I would pot up and try and make sure it's very secure in the pot as they need to be secure to root again properly.

It grows on rock faces in leaf litter so you could possibly mount it but it's probably not the best way to grow it.

Nice one to pick up. Did you know it was sick before you bought it? Discount? I have a Paph parishii that I recently mounted and is growing a new leaf now, but its a epiphyte and I have better humidity than you. You could probably grow that one indoors, considering the low light req. If you were going to mount it I would make a bed of sphag on the mount and lay the roots on top so you can see its progress. If it does not do well you can move it to a pot and if it dies on you atleast you know it was 1/2 way there when you bought bit.

You might wanna chop off that bloom too, to save energy for root making

No I had no idea its roots were iffy. But the bloom is starting to wilt and there are 2 new leafs coming in. I will cut the bloom today.

@rosiec I have it in better gro special mix for paph den cym etc.. it placed it in there loose but not to loose. Should I maybe put spagh in there instead?

As a couple of members have alluded to, Paph. godefroyea is a species. The name should be written as one word with no capital letters. I don't own that particular orchid but I looked it up and found it's been awarded 162 times. That's pretty remarkable. Paphs are not epiphytes so they really shouldn't be mounted. They grow in leaf litter on the ground. They're moisture requirements make them poor candidates for mounting also. I don't even know if their roots are capable of attaching to a mount. It sounds like you have a nice orchid there. Enjoy.
