the night temps on my window gives the plant the cooler nights and the day temperatures are warmer because of my winter double glass pane.
maybe this fall you can let it stay outdoors until a week before frost comes(do not believe the 30F misinformation=it is frost conditions)....your plant will die even for just an overnight exposure to frost. The water inside the cells of the plant would expand and turn to ice and when defrosted by midday the whole plant will turn into mush.

In situ it is constantly exposed to fog and mist....very bright winters( no leaves up the trees )....up in the Himalayas it is protected by thermal up on the trees and it is covered by a coat of moss and debris so the snow don't really affect it (its like it has a thick fur coat)
