Default who else cant stand ugly plants?

Damn I cant stand ugly orchid foliage. I see some of mine I just want to throw out they make me so sick to look at them. I see others plants and I want to throw them away too. Takes just as long to grow a nice plant as it does an ugly one. Why do you waste your time and energy on piles of orchid crap in a pot? I see people at orchid meetings with stuff I wouldnt let anyone know I grew that pile of junk flowers or not.
Why cant I get over this? I know they dont have to be nice looking foliage but it does count for 10 points of a final judging for an award. An ugly plant can cost you an award.

blast from my past before the hail storm ruined all my stuff. some has come back nicely some is gone to the trash can bec they were so ugly. I cant take anymore ugly.

I hear ya on the ugly foliage!! It's the reason I stopped growing Zygos...couldn't stand the spotty foliage.

With that said...if it's ugly because of mechanical damage then I'm Ok w/waiting until it grows out. Of course, I've never had a hail storm damage my entire collection so I'm not sure how I'd feel about THAT.

If it ugly because I made it so, I don't hold it against the plant. I always manage to sunburn the leaves of my Sharry Baby. I just trim the leaves when the plant is to be displayed.

OTOH, I agree, as a window sill grower, I look from more than just a nice flower. I want a pleasing plant shape and proportion. The pot can help. Even run of the mill house plants can look special in a nice pot.

I gave away all my oncidiums because of ugly foliage and now I have set aside my Iwan apple blossom, a Blc (my first cattleya!) and a few others because of red spots! (cold, too much sun?). Then there are these little black spots on the underside of my smaller neos. I hate spots! My other plants don't usually have these problems. They are either chomped upon or not. I know I should keep these orchids...but....
Okay, I will likely keep the Blc. The red spots should fade and I am overly attached. I find the OS a great place to rehome orchids. I did find a plant with suspicious markings but it was taken to be tested.

I totally agree with you!! Especially when some of our plants only bloom once a year! I feel you have to like the plant as a whole, not just the blooms! Plus, what happens if you can't get it to bloom? You're stuck with an ugly plant with no flowers!!!

Plastic surgery is an option for "ugly" people, why not plastic plants as a solution too ? They don't get damaged, can't sunburn or die, no pests or diseases...........all things that can occur naturally. They also don't need watering !
They seem to grow old disgracefully though.........

Why don't you donate them to your orchid society I'm sure someone would appreciate them. Since you already think their orchids are a "Pile of junk" I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking on more. I would suggest you never take a trip or go on an outing to see any wild orchids as you might burn down the rainforests.(mother nature can be a sloppy grower)

It is pretty disheartening when first thing out of the box I burn a leaf and I know it will never heal. I try to keep improving though so after a few years it'll toss that leaf or make enough nice ones and I can forget about it. Provided I only make that mistake once.
