The only thing keeping me from going bankrupt is my parents. I'd spend all my money that I make on orchids if they didn't watch my every move. It's good in some ways but sometimes I have to miss out on a great deal...
|
I went to New World Orchids, Manchester, Michigan--this past Saturday, 09/14. I was not planning on buying any plants, but when I got ready to go home, two Neofinetia falcata Senkaku and a Koukakuden (with seed pod), a Soph. coccinea 4N, and a Trichopilia ended up in my car. There is absolutely nothing like visiting a well run nursery, where everything is visible, examinable, and take-home-able to make any resolve crumble! <Sigh>

Come on admit it....what have you bought recently
Leafmite: Would you mind sharing with me your technique for ending your black rot epidemic? I am having a terrible time with this and have lost too many plants and fear I will be losing more if I don't get this under control. :( Thanks

SAY it with me WAY.TO. MUCH
LOL I just counted and in last 45-50 days i have obtained an orchid everyday to every other day. Not including gifted ones, trades, or flasked babies.... |
yes, i'm holding my lighter up
it ALLLLL started when someone purchased a phal orchid for me and had NO CLUE how to take care of it...now, i am one too...."okay, this is it...but wait i see a..." and you can fill that in. so here's what i've bought over the summer (mainly jewels):
Macodes Petola (jewel) sarcoglottis sceptrodes "lime galaxy" ludisia discolor "alba" Ludisia discolor negra (red velvet) x2 dossinia marmorata var dayuu x ludisia discolor Goodyera Schlechtendaliana - Odontoglossum orchid -- large, waxy cattelya Dendrobium orchid vanilla orchid and some air plants |
Wow! Love all the jewels! I just have the one and, yes, I want more as the leaves are so nice.
Photo, I sent you a pm. To try to save cattleyas that already have it, I removed the leaves and kept cleaning the leaves and pseudobulbs with alcohol as it was too cold to have them outside to spray with a fungicide. You want a fungicide (Captan is one) with copper. I use Bonide's version on my fruit trees (must wear eye protection as this stuff can cause eye damage). ---------- Post added at 07:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ---------- Wow, kindrag, that means you are addicted! |
Umm I have spent about 1,000 in the last 2 months on chids and supplies. I love the Odontoglossums they are one of my favorites I have 3 now @yoliejr
---------- Post added at 06:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:43 PM ---------- yeah and some of them were freebies, I am absolutely positive after i hopefully win this amazing looking catasetum I will finally be able to stop myself. lol. But I kind of want to get those that I really and truly want so that I can hopefully get them to spike in late winter early spring. lol. |
Just got 3 huge Trichoglottis brachiata and a Tolumnia is on the way.
|
My last acquisition is (not yet arrived) a Neomoorea irrorata (or wallisii). 4 inch pot.. I think 2 (maybe more) years to flowering size if everything goes reaaaally good.
Before this one, I picked a phal. gigantea, mariae and violacea alba. I have.. no: I MUST walk with my hands deep in my pockets when I go in books shops, plants shops or cooking forniture or I risk to buy half of the avalaible stuff :| |
So many temptations.... :)
