Just bought a Masd. macrura and a Masd. chaparensis. I've been wanting a macrura for some time and haven't run across any. The chaparensis was purchased to take advantage of the combined shipping.....
I will say, my finacee egged me on to buy the macrura. I was outbid on Ebay and he made me bid higher to win it.
It's ALL his fault.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
So on my Christmas list I added 2 Masdies... I told my fiancee that he could get in touch with the vendor to work out shipping, if he truly wanted to buy orchids for Christmas. He thought he could put something in the greenhouse and I wouldn't notice...
ummmmmm

It does look red, doesn't it? The blooms are a reddish salmon pink when they open, but after a few days, they are a soft, baby pink. I picked it up at Trader Joe's for 8$. It's even fragrant, not pleasant when the blooms open, but after a few days, it smells like vanilla and the plant is nice and tiny!

$10 for a group of 8 rhynchovola "jiminy cricket" (r. digbyana x b. nodosa) (2 leads)
and there was a large healthy $20 dendrophylax funalis that I couldn't pass up since I learned the hard way never to use physan on it...

In all honesty, nothing. I haven't purchased an orchid in at least a year. Was losing them left and right last winter since I had a cruddy setup. Got discouraged over the summer and thought about giving it up. Then I bought a small greenhouse kit and modified it to my needs here in frozenville. So, after Christmas I will LET THE SHOPPING BEGIN!!!!!

Jonada, what have you done to heat your greenhouse? Have you posted in the Greenhouse subforum?

No, I haven't posted there. I will try to soon. I am using electric heat. I also had some 4 x 8 sheets of tempered glass that I framed and double walled the roof, sides and rear with. I still have to double wall the entrance, but so far so good. I have a thermometer that records highest and lowest temps and it never goes below 55-60 at night and can get up to 100 during the day if the sun is out.
