That is likely a water soluble- or dispersable powder that is loaded with mycorrhizae that are soil borne, and of little to no use to an epiphyte.

Those associated with orchids tend to be VERY specific, and there is little evidence that they play a significant role in their culture, outside of during seed germination in nature.
